Application engineering
Industrial transformer duty is shaped by the process. Large motors, furnaces, drives, compressors and nonlinear loads can create starting currents, harmonics, rapid load changes and voltage-drop concerns that are not visible in a simple connected-load list.
The project team should decide whether continuity requires redundant transformers, normally open ties, spare capacity or a defined emergency loading policy. Indoor placement, ventilation, cable routing, noise, fire strategy, monitoring and access for replacement also need to be resolved while the substation layout is still flexible.
